2d Battalion Commander LTC Matthew W. Maness

Commander Guillet LTC Maness commissioned from the United States Military Academy in 2006 as an Armor Officer.

From 2007 to 2010, LTC Maness was assigned to 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, CO. He served as a scout platoon leader, troop executive officer, and troop commander in Apache, Bandit, and Crazy Troops respectively and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

From 2011 to 2013, LTC Maness was assigned to US Army Japan and I Corps (Forward) at Camp Zama, Japan. He served as an operations officer and exercise planner within the G3 and supported the USARPAC Contingency Command Post.

In 2014, LTC Maness transitioned to the Information Systems Engineer functional area. From 2014 to 2016, LTC Maness was assigned to 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, TX. He served as the Information Systems Manager for 41 FA BDE/1CD DIVARTY and the Division Automations Management Officer for 1CD G6. From 2018 to 2020, LTC Maness was assigned to US Army Cyber Command at Fort Belvoir, VA. He served as a DoDIN Operations Planner within the G35.

From 2020 to 2023, LTC Maness was assigned to the Mission Command Capability Development Integration Directorate, Futures and Concepts Center, Army Futures Command at Fort Leavenworth, KS. He served as the Science and Technology Branch Chief for the MC Battle Lab and the Command and Control Information Systems Branch Chief for the Army Capability Manager – Mission Command and Command Posts.

LTC Maness was born in Lawrence, KS. He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Systems Engineering from West Point (2006) and George Washington University (2018) respectively. His military education includes Armor Officer Basic Course, Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, and Intermediate Level Education (CGSC). He is married to LTC Holly Maness (Grey); they have two children: Lillian Belle (3 years) and Matthew Grey (6 months).

2d Battalion Command Sergeant Major CSM Naomi L. Smith

CSM Naomi L. Smith CSM Smith is a native of Forsyth, Georgia, and entered the United States Army on 5 September 2000. She attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia, where she graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate and was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty of 74C (Telecommunications Operator-Maintainer).

Her previous assignments have included: Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 304th Signal Battalion, Camp Colburn, Korea; United States Army Intelligence Security Command, Regional SIGINT Operations Center , 206th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Eisenhower, Georgia; 580th Signal Company, 25th Signal Battalion, Bagram, Afghanistan; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Liberty, North Carolina, where she deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 05-06 and 09-10; United States Army Signal School Detachment, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland; Defense Coordinating Element Region IV, United States Army North, Atlanta, Georgia; 293rd Signal Company, 41st Signal Battalion, Camp Red Cloud, Korea; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 106th Signal Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; V Corps, Fort Knox, Kentucky

CSM Smith holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems from Columbus State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Management. Her military education includes the Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Senior Leader Course (Commandant List), United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 71), Battle Staff NCO Course, AIT Platoon Sergeants Course, Master Resilience Trainers Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Course, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Course, Standardized COMSEC Custodian Course, Local COMSEC Management Software Course, and Combat Lifesavers Course

Battalion Functions

  1. Conduct multi-functional cyber threat emulation to identify technical and human vulnerabilities in an organization.
  2. Identify wireless and physical security weakness that present a risk to an organization.
  3. Conduct Cyber OPFOR threat emulation against a training audience to stimulate CND personnel and provide training opportunities.
  4. Support cyberspace operations through design, deployment, operations, and maintenance of required digital weapons, systems and networks.

As a DoD Certified Red team (DCRT) leverage local, remote, and non-DoD capabilities to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in customer information networks to emulate contemporary cyber threats.

Wireless Exploitation (WES)
Leverage customer wireless footprints to inform cyber exploitation teams, and exploit and access customer information networks.

Close Access (CAS)
Analyze physical security human and technical controls to determine weaknesses that can be exploited to enable on-network operations for cyber and wireless exploitation.
